Students benefit from receiving specialist training sessions that directly reflect the needs of those ‘outside’ in employment. Reality checks and development of real-world case study scenarios make the sessions lively and relevant.
In some subjects, teaching staff may appreciate some specialist topics being delivered by subject specialists – such as the need for First Aid training as part of PHSE.
Students can also have the opportunity to sit a post-class assessment paper that leads to a recognized accredited qualification. This can be especially beneficial for those students entering work experience who find themselves disadvantaged in comparison to other students.
Our experience of working in this arena (including delivering to challenging classes) has led us to develop specialist exercises to keep students engaged throughout the day.

Food safety
Students gain a sound understanding of issues relating to food poisoning, contamination and safe food storage and preservation.

Health & safety
Covering key legal requirements for safe practices, this course covers the essentials of safe working practices.

Nutrition
Students undertaking this course will be able to demonstrate an understanding of how a nutritious diet and regular physical activity is fundamental for proper growth and development and can defend against the risks associated with obesity.

Emergency First Aid
This new, assessed 1-day course is introduced from October 2009 and effectively replaces the Appointed Person course.
Teachers appreciate the value of specialised instruction for students as part of the PHSE syllabus.
Students qualified in this new subject will have significantly enhanced work experience/employment advantages.
